Privacy
Mutual Friend is run by Alternate Club LLP, registered in India ("we"). This page explains what we collect when you use mymutualfriend.com and talk to your mutual friend on WhatsApp, and what we do with it.
The short version: we collect what we need to get to know you and introduce you well. Your mutual friend reads everything you tell it; that's how it works. People on our team may read conversations to check quality and safety. We never sell your data, we never train AI models on it, and you can see it, correct it, or delete it any time.
What we collect
- What you give us. Your phone number, name, email and city. What you tell your mutual friend in conversation: your interests, your goals, what you're looking for, the art and cultures you love, and whatever else you choose to share. Photos or links you send. Your answers about introductions, before and after.
- Sensitive things. A conversation about who you want to meet will touch on things like your sexual orientation, religion, family plans or health. That's sensitive personal data. We process it only because you chose to tell us, only to make introductions for you, and we never share it in raw form.
- What we work out. An understanding of you, built from those conversations. You can ask to see it any time and correct anything in it. Introductions are suggested by AI. Nothing about you is decided automatically in a way that has a legal effect on you.
- What arrives on its own. Message timestamps and delivery status from WhatsApp. Basic web logs on the website: IP address, browser, pages visited. No cookies, no trackers, no analytics scripts.
- Connected accounts. None in this version. If we add any, we'll ask you first, say exactly what we read, and let you disconnect any time.
What we do with it
- Get to know you, and keep that understanding current.
- Find introductions for you, and explain why we think they're worth it.
- Message you on WhatsApp, with SMS as a fallback, about your mutual friend and your introductions. Reply STOP to stop.
- Keep the service safe: spot abuse, fake accounts and misuse.
- Improve Mutual Friend. We look at how the agent is doing, including by reading conversations. We don't train AI models on your conversations unless you've explicitly told your mutual friend you're okay with that, and we don't let our providers train on them either.
AI
Your mutual friend is an AI. Your messages are processed by Anthropic to generate its replies, under terms that prohibit Anthropic from training models on them or using them for anything else. We don't train AI models on your conversations either, unless you explicitly tell your mutual friend you're okay with it. You can change your mind any time, and it only applies going forward. If you ever connect a Google account to Mutual Friend, nothing from it is used to train AI, ever. The AI can be wrong. You can always correct what it understands about you.
Who we share it with
- The person we introduce you to, only after you both say yes. Your first name, a short reason for the introduction, and the details you approve. Never your phone number, never your conversation, never the understanding we hold about you. What you share after that is up to you.
- The companies that run the service for us. WhatsApp (Meta) and Twilio deliver messages. Cloudflare hosts the website. Anthropic runs the agent. They act on our instructions and can't use your data for anything else. Meta's own privacy policy applies to the WhatsApp service itself.
- When the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
- If Mutual Friend changes hands, your data moves with it, under this policy, and we'll tell you.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your information.
- We don't run ads, and we don't share your number or your messages with anyone for marketing.
- We don't train AI models on what you tell us, unless you've explicitly said we can.
- We don't use cookies or trackers on the website.
- We don't track your location. We use the city you tell us.
Your control
- Ask your mutual friend "what do you know about me?" any time, and correct anything.
- Ask for a copy of your data.
- Withdraw your consent to anything: tell your mutual friend, or email us. We stop.
- Allow or stop us learning from your conversations: tell your mutual friend.
- Say "delete me" in the chat, or email hello@mymutualfriend.com. You have 30 days to change your mind. After that your account and your data are gone within 30 days, except what's listed below.
- Reply STOP to stop messages.
- If we've handled something badly, tell us and we'll reply within 30 days. You can also complain to your data protection regulator. In India that's the Data Protection Board of India.
How long we keep it
While your account is active, plus the 30-day change-your-mind window after you delete. After that it's gone within 30 days, except what the law requires us to keep. Statistics that can't identify you may be kept.
Where it lives
On servers in the United States, run by Cloudflare and Anthropic. If you're somewhere else, your data is transferred there to run the service.
Age
Mutual Friend is for people 18 and over. If we learn someone younger has an account, we delete it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and only the people who need it can reach it. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects you, we'll tell you within 72 hours of learning about it, and report it to the regulator where required. If you think something's wrong, tell us at hello@mymutualfriend.com.
Changes
We'll update this page as the product changes. For anything material we'll message you on WhatsApp or email you 14 days before it takes effect.
